I was recently given a wire cage for my rabbit. Is it safe to line the bottom with carpet remnants?

As long as your rabbit does not chew them. If your rabbit is a chewer, try Seagrass matting, which is safe if ingested. I was recently given a wire cage for my rabbit. Is it safe to line the bottom with carpet remnants?
That's a great idea!

You can keep your rabbit on a wire bottom with no problems. Actually it's the best for them as the poop and pee drops to the bottom, keeping it clean for the rabbit.

Some rabbits can get sore hocks. This is mostly due to poor breeding. You can put a piece of untreated wood in to prevent this if you see signs of thinning pads.
my mom always got old blankets from a thrift store and cut them up and put them in the cage where the bunny could sit on them. I am glad you are putting something on the floor of the cage otherwise it could hurt her feet. you are way more responsible then my nieghbors were. you could also leave a wooden box in there too so she could get off the wire completely by don't put carpet remnents in there she could eat them and it would be very bad for her

if you are talking about the litter area we used cat litter- not carpet remnents!
No, because rabbits chew things and could end up with an undigested mass of carpet fibres in it's stomach(has to be removed surgically) or the carpet could contain chemicals from anti-stain treatment(this is done before you buy the carpet). Newspaper or shredded paper is best and don't use cat litter for rabbits either as it swells in their gut if they eat it or ingest it by accident when cleaning themselves.
I'm not sure why you'd want to......the excrement is designed to drop through the wire into the bottom, so they don't stand on it. Is your bunny potty trained? Perhaps you mean to only cover a part of the cage with the carpet? I had a bunny for almost 10 years, so I'm thinking that yours might find that carpet corner to be the favorite place to [.....], which would be yucky.

Otherwise, I agree that the remnant will not adversely harm your bunny, unless he/she shows signs of wanting to chew on it, then it's got to go!

Good luck!
Hi

thankyou for asking this , so many people make the mistake of putting something highly dangerouse on the floor of a highly dangerouse cage and when the rabbit ends up with bad feet and possibly choking they ask 'why did my rabbit die'

In answer to your question , no. Carpet can catch the rabbits nails and if eaten or chewed it can be fatal because of the cotton that can get clotted in the intestines or wrapped arount the windpipe resulting in a dead rabbit. It is also extremely hard to keep clean as it is obsorbant. You seem to understand that you cant just put them in a wire floored cage as it is bad for their feet , often reffered to as hock sores.

You could get some strong wood and cut it to the size of the cage floor then screw it the the wire or something like that or even plastic is ok , but keep away from things that are stringy or gappy that can be chewed.

hope i helped

bye
No he will start to eat it, and if he eats enough, he will bite the dust.

I use a few sheets of newspaper, and that will make it easy

to take the old papers out and put fresh every day.
NO it will make your rabbit sick, cause he will eat it.

You can buy hay or I prefer cat litter because it is easier to clean and keeps it smelling good
no i dont think so becuase of the bottom part it is too scratchy i would say just buy a think of plastic and cut it to the right size then but bedding on the bottom
probably will chew it up if he/she can reach it. i would put newspaper down and then wood chippings on top of that so when u clean it it's easy
you would be safer with carpet tiles
yes
