Wondered if anyone had any sensible ideasCan anyone tell me why my female rabbit seems to go off her food every so often?
I have had several rabbit and sometimes they go off there food usually it is because they have a tummy ache. So i always make sure i have 2 ml syringes from my vet and when they have gone off i syringe feed them Hipp organic stage 1 tender carrots and potatoes baby food and i give them alittle pineapple juice which i was advice by my vet is good for upset tummy in rabbit and also water several times a day. If they are off there food for more than a day i always take them to the vet as if rabbit stop eating it can be hard to get them started again. But i usually find the baby food etc usally get them going again.Can anyone tell me why my female rabbit seems to go off her food every so often?
Well she shouldn't so you are right to be a bit concerned-does she go off her food for long? what do you feed her? It could be her diet that is the problem-rabbits that don't get enough fibre can get gas which makes them uncomfortable for a while and often disperses on it's own but not always, so it's not something you want your rabbit to have. the main part of her diet should be good quality hay, such as timothy hay, with a handful of pellets(not rabbit mix) and fresh greens with occasional fruit and starchy veg(carrots, turnip etc). If you already feed her this diet then I would get her to a vet experienced with rabbits to get her teeth checked in case she has tooth spurs or uneven wear that make eating uncomfortable-an experienced vet can usually check the back teeth without sedating the rabbit.This site is excellent for advice on rabbits health, diet etc and is written by a rabbit expert with years of experience http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/hrs.html
Because their having their period thats acctually what i heard by a man who worked at Pets At Home!!!
Apparently hamsters do it too !!
