Ive been revising for the JLPT Lvl 4 exam, and I have the white rabbit press Kanji flash cards.?

But on many of the kanji flashcards, the kanji for use in the level 4 exam are used in compounds with other kanji which are not in the level 4 kanji lists. Do I need to know these as well? Or will kana be used for the exam?Ive been revising for the JLPT Lvl 4 exam, and I have the white rabbit press Kanji flash cards.?
The kind of kanji you will need to know for JLPT level for is very basic stuff. Those study list are just meant to be guides and often just give you information about kanji characters that often show up on the Level 4 test.

You won't need to know every reading or every compound of. The JLPT tests are mutiple choice exams. Alot of the times you will be able to deduce the correct answer by eliminating the incorrect ones. You are usually giving 4 or 5 answers to choose from and at least 2 or 3 can be eliminated right away.

Usually you're asked things about the correct ';okurigana'; (for example: Is たべます written in kanji as 食べます or 食ます? Or, is 来ます written is hiragana as くます, きます, らいます?)You'll probably also be asked how an underline word in a sentence is written in either kanji or hiragana (for example, Is 月曜日 げつようび or げつよび or げっようび? Or, is 四月 written as よんつき, しがつ, よげつ?). If the test uses a kanji that you're not expected to know yet then they will probably be a ';furigana'; reading for that particular character.

If you haven't started doing so already, I recommend that you work through some practice or past exams. This will be the best way for you to get a feel as to how the exam will be. Of course, the same questions aren't used each year but the format is pretty much the same.

You can also use sites like these

And, if you search ';JLPT level 4'; you should find lots more.

One last thing, the kanji part is just one small part of the exam. Don't over emphasis it and ignore the other parts.Don't spend too much time on a single question since they all count the same. The JLPT doesn't penalize you for wrong answers so if you're not sure then take a guess.

You are going to learn the kanji must more quickly if you have the context provided by the compounds. However level 4 kanji questions mostly consist of matching a single kanji with it's hirgana equivalent. You don't need to know so many kanji for level 4-try to focus on the ichinen-sei ones. You need to know hiragana well and the very basics of Japanese grammar for level 4.
I haven't taken any JLPT but your best bet is to learn the kanji with the compounds.

Take for instance the compound of shigoto, this is irregular because it's 仕 (official) + 事 (thing) So, job is really ';official thing.'; It's irregular because of ';shi's'; pronunciation when placed with koto.

90% of the time, a compound will have onyomi pronunciation.
