Sounds like the poor thing has mites I have a guinea pig and they say they have the same symptoms. Mites are not visible to the naked eye. They have red spots, hair loss, scruffiness, ect. Those are all the first symptoms of mites I guess in both guinea pigs and rabbits, and watever else out there with fur and that can get mites.

I don't know much about about fleas because guinea pigs usually don't get them. But i just read up on a website that you can tell if your rabbit has fleas if he is constantly scratching himself and u can see little black specks in the fur which is flea poop.

Ticks are not common, but can infest your rabbit...

Examine him and see if you can see any visible ones.

Hope you find out the problem!!!My Rabbit Is 5 He Has Hair Loss And Red Spots He Has Had This For 1 Month Now Whats Is It? Can I Help Him?
Is it possible he got sunburnt? Rabbits are very sensitive to the weather. It sounds to me that since this has been going on so long you need to take him to the vet.
it could be sunburn or he might have a parasite take him to a vet.
if your rabbit is white it could be sunburn but its more likely to be mites like mange especially if he is scratching. take him to the vet for specialist treatment
