Will a Daisy Model 840C Grizzly Youth Air Rifle with .177 pellets kill a squirrel or rabbit?

Because i want to buy one from Dick's Sporting Goods store but im not sure this will help me get rid off the squirrels in my backyard. Will a Daisy Model 840C Grizzly Youth Air Rifle with .177 pellets kill a squirrel or rabbit?
The chance of a clean 1 shot kill is very low. It is only 300 fps with a light pellet according to the specs:http://www.daisy.com/_manuals/840_series鈥?/a> You'd probably have to be just 5-10 feet away with a solid he shot, still not 100% certain of a 1 shot kill.

If you had a Daisy 880S, you'd have over 2x the velocity. Keep in mind squirrels and rabbits are not considered pest, so you need a license to hunt them. They have to be in season and most states don't allow hunting with air rifles. The 880S is under $40 at WalMart and makes an excellent target rifle for a beginner. Will a Daisy Model 840C Grizzly Youth Air Rifle with .177 pellets kill a squirrel or rabbit?
The Daisy Grizzly doesn't have enough power to kill a squirrel, much less a rabbit. The Grizzly has a muzzle velocity of up to 350 fps with 5.1 grain BBs which gives you a muzzle energy of up to 1.4 ft-lbs. With 8 grain pellets it gets up to 330 fps for a muzzle energy of up to 1.9 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Squirrels require 3 ft-lbs of impact energy for a clean kill, assuming head-shots with perfect shot placement.(1) Rabbits require 5 ft-lbs of impact energy for a clean kill, assuming head-shots with perfect shot placement.(1) The Grizzly doesn't have enough energy to humanely kill either rabbits or squirrels at the muzzle, much less at a realistic hunting range like 20-30 yards.

If you want an inexpensive airgun for hunting rabbits and squirrels take a look at the Crosman 2100. At $60 (2), its going to be about $20 more expensive than the Grizzly. However its going to give you a muzzle energy of 9.2 ft-lbs (8 grain pellet at about 725 fps). That means it has enough power (and the gun has sufficient accuracy) to kill rabbits and squirrels at 20-30 yards provided you do your part. Even a Daisy 880 or Crosman 664 (at 7 ft-lbs of muzzle energy) which are a bit on the light side for rabbit (and shouldn't be used at much beyond 15-20 yards on that species) would make a better choice than a Grizzly.
No. That gun only shoots 350 fps. And that velocity is probably inflated, so you're likely to get something less than that. Shooting a rabbit or squirrel with that gun will only injure it. The animal will then die a slow, painful death from the infections.

With an 8 grain pellet going 350 fps, you've only got 2.1 fpe at the muzzle. Keep in mind that I'm being generous, and it's probably less, more like 1.5. And then you have to remember that the velocity decreases as it travels. Rabbits need at least 5 fpe at imact. Your gun doesn't even have that at the muzzle. Squirrels need 6 fpe at impact.

A Gamo Big Cat 1200 is a better rifle for pest control. It shoots lead pellets at 1000 fps. This air rifle will do the job. It costs about 120 dollars.

The Crosman Quest is also a good gun. It shoots lead pellets at about 800 fps. This is also enough power for rabbit and squirrel hunting.

A 22 long rifle is also sufficient. With this gun, you can take groundhog, birds, possum, raccoon, rabbits, jackrabbits, squirrels and moles. A good semi auto 22lr is the Marlin 60. It's a great gun, and it's one of the most popular 22s there are. You can get it brand new for 150 dollars.
IMO the Daisy 840C Grizzly is not a rifle that should be used for hunting, unless you're planning a backyard safari(bug busting)

Daisy tends to exaggerate their guns fps numbers slightly. Even if you accept 350fps with 5.1gr BBs that equals 1.4ft-lbs. %26gt;Pellets will be slightly more efficient but not enough to make the 840 a small game hunter

If you want an inexpensive dual-ammo air rifle that's capable of taking small game(rabbit, squirrel). I would suggest the Crosman 2100**($59)

**AKA the Remington AirMaster 77

725fps* with 7.9gr pellets = 9.2ft-lbs

5 shot 1in groups at 25 yards are the norm.

*Actual chronograph numbers.

The 2100 is powerful enough and accurate enough to take a rabbit at 25 yards.

It takes a minimum of 3.0ft-lbs of impact energy with a head shot to take a squirrel, and 5.0ft-lbs for a rabbit.
ok listen closey this can kill a squirrel or a rabbit but you must hit it in the vital organs im a REALLY big hunter and fisher heres my email adress str8gee1234@yahoo.com just email me if u have any questions about hunting .
I'm sure it could, but it only shoots pellets at 330 fps when new. It is fairly accurate, so that is why I think it could be possible. I personally like a little more power, but this is actually the model I was planning on teaching my kids basic marksmanship with.
This is a light stinger with low power....I doubt if i could even feel it if you shot me in the butt...

Be sure its legal to fire projectile guns in your area.

A gamo whisper with pba would be better with 1200fps or a 22lr or shotgun.
Yes if you use head shots. Dont forget squirrels are delicious, hunting rule #1 if you kill it you eat it.
Yes if you can aim. Don't kill if you don't intend to eat it.
Be sure it's legal where you live. Don't mess things up for the rest of us, okay? Thank you.
