What was the ';rabbit test'; that used to be used to determine pregnancy?

I have heard it mentioned in older TV shows, etc...What was the ';rabbit test'; that used to be used to determine pregnancy?
blood or urine was injected into a rabbit and if the ovaries showed some effects from the pregnancy hormones the woman was pregnant, they were told ';the rabbit died'; but in reality all the rabbits died as they has to be cut open to see if there were effects from the hormone...What was the ';rabbit test'; that used to be used to determine pregnancy?
The urine of the woman to be tested for pregnancy is injected in the immature rabbit then after few days the rabbit is killed and its ovariies are checked. If the ovaries show sign of ovulation then the woman from whom the urine was collected is pregnant. Her urine contains Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin a hormone secreted during pregnancy which induces the ovary changes.
